Eminent Odissi Danseuse Smt Suprava Mishra was honoured by Hon’ble President of India Shri Pranab Mukharjee with ‘Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Award’.
Odissi exponent, Suprava Mishra has received Gujarat Gaurav Puraskar from Shri Raman Lal Vohra, Cultural Minister and Shri Bhagyesh Jha, Secretary culture, Gujarat State on 22nd September 2013 at Bhai Kaka hall, Ahmedabad.
Suprava Mishra, a renowned exponent of Odissi classical dance one of the eight classical dance styles of India. She combines tradition with innovation, classicism with creativity and the ethic with contemporary. She is extremely innovative, original, creative and thoughtful Guru and has a special quality in shaping the subtle and psychological framework of child as well. Suprava was born in a family of musicians devoted to furthering the arts, and from the childhood she is inspired to learn classical vocal and then classical dance by her parents.
She has been trained by galaxy of eminent gurus of Odissi Dance like Padma Vibhushan Shri Kelucharan Mahapatra, GuruShriRaghunath Datta , Guru Shri Gangadhar Pradhan, Guru Shri Harihara Mohanty, Guru Shri Sudhakar Sahu, Guru ShriGajendraPanda (last three Guru Deva Prasad Das Style). Suprava Mishra has been able to imprint their combine legacy with her own dance persona. She is a popular artist acclaimed by audiences and critics alike in India.
Known for her refined sensibilities in presenting Abhinaya, Suprava has contributed to Odissi dance a distinctive and unique flavor. Being a senior executive in BSNL she has received numerous awards in All India Telecom cultural meet including special jury award at Hyderabad.She also represented Gujarat in Rashtriya Yuva Mahotsav conducted by Government of India several times and bagged numerous awards.
Suprava Mishra has written many articles about Odissi dance and role of classical dance in development of student’s life. She has written a book named ‘Bhartiya Nrutya’ was very appreciated by noted Guru and other scholar writer of art literature. She is regularly write article about culture, temple sculpture, Indian Classical dance and contemporary development of Classical Dance. Her second book i ‘Odissi Nrutya aur Bharatiya Sanskruti’ is released byPadmabhusan Minalinini Sarabhai & PadmabhusanKumudini Lakhia and appreciated by all.
Suprava is founder Director of AUM ARTS DANCE ACADEMY. Student of academy has participated in RastriyaYuva Utsav and perform in number of TV programmes, Dance Drama and dance bale regularly. Suprava was honored by ‘Kalinga Nrutya ShreeSamman’ by Biju Pattnaik Smruti Kala Parisada, ‘Utkal Nrutyagourab Samman’ by UtkalSanskrutika Parishad and ‘UtkalNrutyashree Samman’ by Utkal Sahitya Kala Parishada for her creative work in the field of Odissi dance and literature and making Odissi dance popular outside Orissa. Bhaktakabi Jayadev SanskrutikaParishad felicitated her with ‘Jayadev SmarakiSamman’ for her unique work on Gita Govinda and her magnificent contribution to the great Indian tradition of dance, art & culture. She was recently honored ‘Nritya Shiromani’ at International Theater Fesival at cuttack and honoured by Orissa socio cultural association Ahmedabad.
Suprava has performed in almost all the Major cities in India including All India Music teacher’s conference at Cuttackin 1980, All India Telecom Cultural meet Hyderabad 92, Delhi 92, Calcutta 95, Madras 96, Rashtriya yuva UtsavCalcutta 96, Ahmedabad 97,Darpana Golden jubilee Festival ’99, Acharya Brihaspati Sammelan by Sur singar Mumbai’ 99,International Odissi Festival 2006,Debadhara Bhubaneswar 2008, Intrnational Navratri fwestival 2009, International theater festival 2010, Modhera Festival 2011 and Debasmruti Bhubaneswar 2012.
Suprava Mishra has also endeavored to create new spaces for the classical dancer of Today. With renewed fervour she has attempted to push the frontiers of classical art and to reach out to new and especially young audiences. Suprava believes that dance must be linked to life and artists must use their unique position in society to make a difference to life and living. Suprava gives lecture and demonstration in schools and colleges and explain Indian culture-tradition, Indian mythology, Indian classical dance, Temple sculptures to create artistic sense in student.
